Visitors Info
Policy Statements:
- KIREHE DH leaders ensure that visitors are received, oriented and safe while on hospital premise.
- KIREHE DH leaders ensure that Customer Care Officer or Public Relations Officer are easily accessible by visitors and able to receive them appropriately.
- KIREHE DH leaders that Security Officer is oriented and trained on visitors’ orientation.
- Visitors shall abide by all hospital rules and regulations while on the hospital premise.
Procedures:
- KIREHE DH Customer Care Officer or Public Relations Officer avails and posts signs (internal and external) to orient visitors.
- KIREHE DH Customer Care Officer or Public Relations Officer determines and posts working hours, patients’ visiting hours and rules and regulations throughout the hospital at entrances and in the different hospital departments
- The customer care officer provides education on visiting hours to hospital staff, patients, and their relatives
- KIREHE DH security officer welcomes, documents required information, and orients visitors to customer care officer if necessary.
- KIREHE DH public relations officer welcomes, orients, and provides right information to the hospital visitors.
- For visitors who want to see the patients in isolation rooms, he/she should always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) before entering the room and refer to the Patient Isolation Police and Procedure. This includes TB and Neonatology Department, among others.
- Visitors should respect hand washing before entering in hospital (at the entrance) and decontamination standards while into hospital
The nurses explain to patients and their next of kins the following visiting measures:
- Make visits only during hospital visiting hours,
- Orient them in department they intend to visit.
- Visiting is strictly limited to two persons per patient at bed side.
- Everyday visiting hours are the following as stated in visiting Policy and procedures:
- 6:00 am to 07:00 am
- 12:00pm to 01:00 pm
- 05:00 pm to 08:00 pm
The customer care officer explains the following measures to administrative guests:
- Visiting Hours: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Arriving at the gate visitors will give the identification to the security officer:
- Security officer will take the information below:
- Identification (both names) and phone number or I.D number
- Registration (place of origin, who the visitor would like to see…)
- Orient visitors appropriately to where they wish to visit.

The management of Kirehe District Hospital wishes to inform you that you have the right to:
a. Right to Dignity and Respect
- Hospital staffs have the responsibility to speak to you politely, in the languages that you understand well.
- It is your right to be addressed according to your preference (titles such as Dr, Sr, Sir, Madam, …. or names).
b. Right to Care
- You have the right to receive care when you need it.
- You have the right to the best quality care available, including preventive, curative, primitive, and rehabilitative care services.
- You have the right to a full continuum of care including referral when needed.
c. Right to Privacy
- Clinical staffs have the obligation to ensure you are consulted in a private space free from being seen or overheard by others.
- Only clinical staff involved in your care have access to your health information.
- Health information about your condition can be revealed only to you, your preferred family members, or legally competent guardians. However, if you are under 18, your parents/legally competent guardians will be informed.
d. Right to Confidentiality
- All our staffs are aware of their professional and employment obligation to keep confidentiality of your health information.
- Electronic medical records are protected by passwords and access is reserved for clinical staffs.
- Access to medical records is only allowed to clinical staffs involved in case management.
- Patients’ charts are kept in appropriate, private places with restricted access.
e. Right to Safety and Security
- You have the right to be cared for by healthy and competent personnel in a clean and safe environment with the safest equipment.
- You have the right to be protected from injuries, fire, and any type of accident while at the hospital.
f. Right to Choice
- You have the right to choose the provider you want to care for you.
- Our care providers have the responsibility to allow and guide you in making a choice from the possible treatment options.
g. Right to Information
- You have the right to know the package of services available at the hospital, when and where they are available, as well as what it takes to access them.
- Health care providers have the obligation to inform you of your condition, causes, possible complications and prognosis, treatment options, and their effects.
- You have the right to know the names of clinicians treating you.
h. Right to Complain
- You have the right to complain to the hospital leadership about what does not please you either verbally, by phone calls, email, or written communication.
- The customer care officer has the responsibility to assist you in the process.
i. Right to Refuse Treatment
- You have the right to refuse treatment proposed by care providers.
- However, if you are under 18, your parents or guardians will help you decide.
j. Right to Pain Management
- Pain is one of the leading causes of consultations at the hospital. We know how bad it feels and believe that access to pain treatment is a human right.
- You have the right to the best pain medications available.
k. Right to be Respected in Regard to Cultural and Spiritual Beliefs
- Our staffs have the obligation to respect your cultural and religious beliefs vis-Ă -vis treatments, nutrition, and other aspects during care.
- You have the right to be facilitated for worship according to your preferences.
- The hospital allows religious personalities to assist you in regard to your faith when needed (Pastors, Priests, Imams, etc.).
Patient Responsibilities
To enable us to promote your rights, you also have the following responsibilities:
- KIREHE hospital is not a commercial entity. However, our mission to provide health care to all members of the population cannot be achieved without the financial capacity required to run the facility. We therefore require you to contribute to financial sustainability by ensuring you pay for all services delivered.
- You are responsible for taking care of your own health.
- You are responsible for accessing and using the health system properly and not abusing it.
- You are responsible for respecting the rights of health providers and other patients.
- You are responsible for providing health care providers with relevant and accurate information about your health condition.
- You are responsible for following all instructions and adhering to prescribed treatments.
